White Continent

The White Continent

Antarctica remains Earth's last true wilderness—a breathtaking realm of ice, wind and raw natural beauty. Towering glaciers calve into seas teeming with penguins, seals and whales. Each day brings extraordinary encounters, from zodiac cruises among sculpted icebergs to landings where thousands of penguins gather on pristine shores. Experience the profound silence broken only by the crack of ancient ice and the calls of wildlife in this pristine environment that has captivated explorers for centuries.

Emperor Penguins Snow Hill

The Majestic Emperors of Snow Hill Island

Witness one of nature's most extraordinary spectacles—Emperor penguins caring for their young on the frozen sea ice. Standing nearly four feet tall, these regal birds brave Antarctica's harshest conditions, gathering in remote colonies like the legendary Snow Hill Island in the Weddell Sea. These specialized expeditions utilize helicopters or specialized ice-breaking vessels to access these rarely-visited colonies, offering privileged glimpses into the lives of Antarctica's most iconic residents as they raise their chicks in temperatures reaching -40°C. A true once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounter reserved for the most adventurous travelers.

Antartica - Seal

ANTARCTIC SEAL ENCOUNTERS

Antarctica's waters and ice floes are home to several remarkable seal species perfectly adapted to this extreme environment. Encounter charismatic Weddell seals with their cat-like faces and distinctive "smile," often found basking on ice near research stations. Spot massive southern elephant seals—the world's largest seals—as males battle dramatically for breeding territories on sub-Antarctic shores. Observe agile leopard seals with their distinctively patterned coats hunting near penguin colonies, and the gregarious crabeater seals that, despite their name, primarily filter krill with their specialized teeth.

THE ARCTIC

The Arctic Circle encompasses a magnificent diversity of landscapes and cultures. From Svalbard's rugged mountains where polar bears roam, to Greenland's ancient ice sheet and vibrant Inuit communities. Here, the summer sun never sets, casting golden light across fjords, tundra blooming with wildflowers, and ice floes where walrus gather. Navigate legendary passages, visit remote settlements, and witness wildlife adapted to survive in one of Earth's most challenging environments.

Northern Lights

Nature's Most Spectacular Light Show

Experience the ethereal magic of the Northern Lights dancing across Arctic skies—one of Earth's most mesmerizing natural phenomena. Our carefully timed expeditions to Iceland, Greenland, Norway, and Arctic Canada maximize viewing opportunities during peak aurora seasons. Sail beneath star-filled skies as ribbons of green, purple, and blue light shimmer and pulse overhead. Expert photographers onboard provide guidance to capture these breathtaking displays, while scientists explain the fascinating science behind this polar spectacle.

“Hi Lauren – what a wonderful time we had in Ecuador and Galapagos!!! Thank you for all your efforts in making our travels so easy, We made all the connections and all the flights were on time which was a relief. Santiago was fascinating and it gave me a taste for the region. I’d love to travel more in Chile and Patagonia. Quito is quite an incredible city. Slung between deep forested gorges streets zigzag up ridiculously steep hills with small houses clinging to the slopes. The city itself hangs vertiginously from the edge of an escarpment, making it look like a cardboard cutout until you arrive and realise just how populous Quito is. Surrounding the city, mountains and valleys fold in improbable forms with emerald green farmed patches on the heights with enclosures etched into the slopes – no place for machinery… The day trip in to the mountains and up to 3,800m at the base of Cotapaxi volcano was truly memorable and a terrific contrast to the days ahead. Hurtigruten Santa Cruz II was very comfortable, the staff were wonderful, the guides knowledgeable and passionate about Ecuador and Galapagos. Images of all the experiences we had continue to flow through my thoughts. The volcanic island landscapes and the surrounding seas and the plants and creatures living there are so unique and fascinating. Each island was just a little different – and it truly was like being immersed in a documentary! Once again – a heartfelt ‘thank you’. Until next time"
